This type of brake van was once a common sight on the LNWR. It was used for passenger traffic. Images exist of these vehicles online. One grounded vehicle was the subject of an article in the LNWR Historical society journal which included photographs and measurements of the body of the vehicle. This model is based on those measurements. This type of vehicle had the familiar passenger livery depicted in these instructions as it was used in passenger service. The four wheeled underframe was 21ft with a wheelbase of 12ft. The brakes were screw operated, acting on the inner tires only. One photograph shows No. 2337 in a plain livery (presumed to be maroon). The photograph shows the brake arrangements with the brakes painted white (This image was probably part of a Board of Trade investigation into brake standardisation in the 1890’s).Some of these vehicles had an extended lookout which went up to the roof. One is depicted in a train behind saddle tank 316. There does not seem to have ever been any glazing in the guards’ door. These vehicles were long lived. In later days the survivors were used as goods brake vans.
