  • *** This kit is supplied with one set of wagon axleguards, also available in a pack of 4 sets: D3D-07 Wagon Axleguards ***

This 4mm scale  kit  is primarily made from laser cut and etched wood. It can be completed to represent any one of several versions of a standard type used by the Great Northern Railway. The kit is for the body. It does not include any underframe parts, wheels, axleguards, buffers etc.

These brake vans have been described in railway literature (e.g. LNER Wagons and subsequent volumes by P. Tatlow)  and the Model Railway press (Especially an article in  "Model Railway News" December 1967). A representative model will enhance any model railway based on the GNR or its former geographical area.

The GNR had several types of brake van. The brake van type that this model is based on, with vertical planking, was a 20 ton version that replaced earlier vans from the early 1900's onwards. It was given diagram 1602/N. The physical dimensions overall were the same as the earlier vans. A few vans were vacuum fitted in later years. There were two significant variations of this van. Initially, the van was constructed with stanchions at each end, similar to existing vans constructed to diagram 4470/N. Later vans did not have stanchions. This van would always have had the large "G N" identification up to grouping.
